The Jersey Difference!

UPDATE!

We do not have litters often. Most of my girls are spayed and are living their best life with us! We do have litters now and then, but because of the infrequency of litters we tend to have a waiting list. Most people find me through my Facebook Page (Jersey Shih Tzu) and my instagram page @jerseyshihtzu (currently over 100K followers) I tend to get a lot of messages from people wanting to be added to my wait list. I require my questionnaire to be filled out first before adding anyone. I AM VERY PICKY ABOUT WHERE MY PUPS GO. Please be patient for a response, as I do receive many emails, FB message and IG messages.

Here at Jersey shih tzu, you are getting more than just a new best friend to love. We want your experience with us to be nothing but positive! We do our very best to provide you with a well adjusted, healthy puppy. Before your baby goes home with you, you can be assured that you puppy has been vet checked (2-3 times), shots and dewormings up to date. You will have the shot records when you take your pup home! Your puppy will be SO socialized, he/she will transition wonderfully into your home! We have had nothing but positive feedback on transitions!

Let's talk about their looks!

We only breed a certain "look" here at Jersey Shih Tzu. Our moms and dads have NO eye white, perfectly smooshy faces with high set noses. None of our breeding dogs have pinched nostrils - they have gorgeous conformation and coat. I am extremely picky about the look I want to produce. We do not care for the low set nose you might see on some shih tzu elsewhere. We do not care for a long snout either with eyes close together (shih tzu should not look that way!) We also like a nice thick build with short legs. My puppies tend to mature around 9-10 lbs. We not purposely breed for the smaller "imperials" but from time to time we will produce one that matures at 6-7 lbs.

This is Bear, a past puppy, an excellent example of what we like to produce here.

Let's talk about their health and temperament!

Do you know why so many dogs end up in shelters? It's actually a combination of non-committed pet owners & irresponsible back yard breeders/ puppy mills who do not have quality healthy dogs to breed, they just don't care. Not only do their offspring have health problems, their temperaments can be terribly uneven. People need to do their research before committing to a puppy, this is YOUR responsibility as a pet owner. Research the breeder or kennel - google is a powerful too, the internet has made things so easy this way! Check out websites like "ripoffreport.com" to see if your breeder or kennel has complaints against them. Please understand that if you are paying $200 for a puppy you might think you are getting a fantastic deal up front - but what about their health in the long run? Know the parents of the puppy you are getting & health records/ testing. Far too often people bring home a cute puppy without doing research and end up with much more than they bargained for and then they SADLY end up dumping them at a shelter when they become a burden to their family. Newsflash: your puppy / dog IS your family member! I am extremely picky about the temperaments I breed. All of my dogs are socialized, healthy and cared for. My customers are the best of the best, I receive updates and stay in touch with ALL of them so I keep track of the pups I produce. YES, all of them!! I have never had a situation where a customer was unhappy with their puppy or how it turned out. My contract states if a situation arises where they cannot keep their pup, at any age, that puppy must be returned to me! I will not in any way contribute to the dogs being dumped at shelters. All of my pups are sold with limited AKC papers and must be spayed or neutered at 6-9 months old. No papers are issued until there is proof of spay.

How we go the extra mile to make your life easier:

When our puppies turn about 5 weeks old, we start the house training process, I believe the earlier the better with housebreaking! It is never an easy task for a new pet owner, so we try to get your new puppy ready for the transition home. We do our best - we work VERY hard on this!! Since my puppies are raised inside our home, I really want them to start doing their business outside as much as possible! We do start out in the beginning (1-4 weeks old) by using pee pee pads, and even at a very young age they learn to scoot away from their sleep/feed area to do their potty on the pads. This gets them ready for outdoor training! By 5 weeks old we are taking them outside about every hour during the day. We have had very good experiences with these guys learning young. This will make the transition easier when they go home with you, they will be NO stranger to grass and knowing where to go potty. Believe me, this will make things so much easier on you and your new puppy! We are very hands on here and put in a lot of effort to help our customers out!! We take them out early in the morning when the grass is wet with dew, (shih tzu are notorious for not wanting to walk on wet grass) so we find that when this is done young they won't give you any problems when you take them home. We take them out during the day when there is noise from airplanes above, cars from the street, and even farm activity like tractors. Your puppy will be used to all kinds of outdoor noises and will not scare easily! I take them out when it's dark out as well. Believe it or not I have had a dog afraid of the dark and hated to go outside to potty before bed. I will make sure this doesn't happen with your new puppy!

We want you to be 100% happy when adopting a puppy from Jersey Shih Tzu. Know that we have worked very hard with your puppy from the beginning. Also, all of our puppies are heavily socialized and spoiled, and that is putting it mildly! Your new puppy will be used to other children (young and older!) also will be used to other dogs, even cats. Your puppy will not be afraid of everyday household noises (vacuums, kids yelling, etc!) we raise them under foot here!

We recommend any kind of quality food, please try to stay away from cheap foods like purina. We like Fromm, also Simply nourish from Pet Smart is also wonderful, if you live near a tractor supply store, 4health is also a good option (it is just like taste of the wild which is the more expensive version). We feed nothing but the best to our adults and puppies! We like to start the pups on Bil Jac Puppy Select for a number of reasons. The kibble is highly soluble which makes it easier for newly teething puppies to break it down, it needs no presoaking. They LOVE it and they do not need any wet food mixed in, it produces very nice firm stool also.  You can slowly mix with a new food as they get older.

Please understand the commitment of owning/caring for a puppy, and be very sure before deciding to adopt one of our puppies , as you know buying a puppy is not like buying a shirt or a pair of shoes that you can return the next day if you decide you don't want them- this is a sweet puppy we are talking about, a real commitment. We want the best for our babies!

WE DO NOT SHIP OUR PUPPIES! We require meeting you, in our home. We want to know WHO is adopting our precious puppies and we want you to meet your puppy's parents and to see where your baby has been raised. I want you to socialize with my dogs and especially your puppy's parents.

****PLEASE NOTE****

I ABSOLUTELY DO NOT BREED MY DOGS UNLESS I HAVE A SOLID WAITING LIST. YOU WILL MOST LIKELY NEVER SEE "AVAILABLE" PUPPIES LISTED ON MY WEBSITE, I MIGHT ADD PICS OF THE PUPS TO MY NURSERY PAGES OR MY FB/IG PAGE TO SHOW THEM OFF BUT THEY ARE ON RESERVE FOR MY WAITING LIST. IF YOU WOULD LIKE A JERSEY SHIH TZU PUPPY YOU MUST FIRST FILL OUT A QUESTIONNAIRE BEFORE BEING APPROVED FOR MY WAITING LIST. PLEASE UNDERSTAND THAT MY WAITING LIST IS SOMETIMES 6 MONTHS TO A YEAR OUT.
